Local Louisiana Old Republic Insurance Agents

Covington & Slidell Independent Insurance Agents

Local Louisiana Old Republic insurance agents, typically independent agencies like Aubert Insurance Agency in Covington and Slidell, may place commercial trucking, professional liability, forest products, aviation and complex workers' compensation risks with Old Republic companies. These programs typically suit Louisiana businesses whose exposures fall outside what standard regional carriers prefer to write.

Old Republic Insurance Options for Louisiana Businesses

Old Republic is not one insurance company. It is a group of specialty underwriters, each focused on a narrow slice of commercial risk. That structure is the reason independent agents in Covington and Slidell turn to it. A logging contractor in Washington Parish and a four-attorney firm on Columbia Street need very different underwriting, and the group may have a separate company built around each.

For Louisiana business owners, the practical options typically fall into a few buckets:

  • Commercial trucking and fleet coverage for motor carriers hauling through the I-10/I-12 corridor
  • Professional liability for law firms, now including the State Bar's endorsed lawyers program
  • Forest products and construction programs for sawmills, loggers and contractors
  • Aviation and niche specialty lines for operators that general markets often decline

The common thread is financial stability paired with niche expertise. When a claim involves a jackknifed tractor-trailer or a missed filing deadline, you want an adjuster who has seen that claim hundreds of times, not one learning on your file.

The choice between these two forms is one of the biggest decisions on a manufactured home policy. Comprehensive coverage typically protects against all direct physical loss unless the policy specifically excludes it. Named peril coverage pays only for the events listed.

Manufactured homes have their own claim patterns, and a standard homeowners form often handles them poorly. Wind lifting a home off its piers, damage to skirting and tie-downs, and older units with depreciated values all call for specific policy language.

One feature to ask about is how a total loss gets paid. Foremost's 2026 manufactured home policies may include an Agreed Loss Settlement feature that pays the full insured amount in a total loss without subtracting depreciation. For an older home, that difference can run into tens of thousands of dollars. On an actual cash value policy, a 25-year-old unit may be valued far below the cost of replacing it.

Other items worth reviewing with your agent:

  • Tie-down and anchoring requirements: Some policies tie wind coverage to proper anchoring.
  • Detached structures: Carports, sheds, and decks are sometimes limited or excluded.
  • Personal property: Check whether contents are covered at replacement cost or actual cash value.
  • Park vs. private land: Location can change pricing and liability needs.

Core Commercial and Specialty Programs Within the Old Republic Group

Each Old Republic company typically runs its own underwriting, claims and loss control teams. That matters more than most buyers realize. A carrier that only writes forestry or trucking tends to price those risks with real data, and its safety staff may actually know what a skidder or a reefer unit looks like.

One recent change Louisiana clients should know about: BITCO Insurance Companies began operating as Old Republic Bitco effective April 30, 2026. Bitco has long written specialty programs for the forest products industry, including sawmills, logging operations and wood manufacturing, which is a meaningful fit for the timber economy north of Lake Pontchartrain. If your policy documents suddenly show a new name, that rebrand is likely the reason. Your coverage did not change because of the name alone.

Old Republic Aerospace and Specialty Niche Coverages

Old Republic Aerospace typically writes aviation risks such as private aircraft owners, flight schools, aerial applicators and airport operators. Crop dusting operations in rural Louisiana parishes and small charter outfits often struggle to find a home in the standard market, and an aviation specialist may offer hull and liability terms built for those operations.

The group's niche lines also include the Lawyers Specialty unit, covered in more detail below, plus surety and other targeted programs. Availability varies by risk and underwriting approval.

Great West Casualty and Commercial Trucking Solutions

Great West Casualty is the Old Republic company most Louisiana agents associate with trucking. It typically focuses on owner-operators and fleets, offering auto liability, physical damage, cargo and related coverages. Many trucking clients value its loss control support, which may include driver safety resources and compliance guidance.

A common mistake we see: a growing carrier adds tractors to a general business auto policy until the underwriter non-renews it mid-growth. Moving to a trucking specialist earlier usually avoids that scramble.

With no lender to satisfy, the decision is yours, and so is the entire loss. A total rebuild in this parish runs well into six figures.

Homeowners who own outright

Your lender requires coverage at least equal to the loan, and will buy a policy on your behalf at your expense if yours lapses.

Homeowners with a mortgage

Accounting firms hold Social Security numbers, bank details, and tax records, which makes them prime targets. One industry observer put it bluntly: for most CPA firms, cyber insurance is no longer optional, and failing to meet MFA and EDR requirements can result in denied claims or total exclusion from the market. Translation: carriers now want multi-factor authentication and endpoint detection software in place before they will write you, and they may check after a claim. A cyber policy may cover breach notification, forensic investigation, ransomware response, and lawsuits from affected clients.

Cyber Liability

Comparing Old Republic Specialty Programs to Standard Commercial Policies

Standard commercial packages work well for retail shops, offices and light contractors. They start to strain when a business has heavy vehicles, unusual equipment or professional exposures. Here is how the two approaches typically differ:

Feature Standard Commercial Policy Old Republic Specialty Program
Underwriting focus Broad, many industries Narrow, single industry
Heavy fleets Often limited or declined Typically a core appetite
Claims handling General adjusters Industry-focused adjusters
Loss control Basic inspections May include industry-specific safety support
Pricing basis Class codes, broad averages Industry loss data and operations detail
Ideal client Low-to-moderate hazard Higher hazard or specialized risk

Neither option is automatically superior. A specialty program costs more effort to qualify for, with deeper applications, driver lists and loss runs. The payoff is coverage written by people who understand your exposures, which often means fewer exclusions that catch you off guard.

The roof

Age, material and shape drive the wind rate more than any other factor. A fortified roof designation opens markets that would otherwise decline the house.

How Local Support Differs from National Call Centers

Where an Independent Agency Uses Them in Louisiana

An independent agency in Covington or Slidell typically reaches for Old Republic when a client's risk falls outside the appetite of standard regional carriers. Regional markets are excellent for many Northshore businesses, but they draw firm lines. Ten power units, a hazmat endorsement or a crew of manual laborers can push a file past those lines quickly.

Heavy fleet operations are the clearest example. Workers' compensation is another, and it got more complicated this year. Effective August 1, 2026, Louisiana House Bill 185 expanded workers' compensation coverage requirements to employees of independent contractors who perform manual labor. Contractors who relied on subcontractors to carry their own coverage should review their exposure now, because premium audits are where that gap usually surfaces.

Here's what that means for you: a specialty market is a tool, not a default. At Aubert Insurance Agency, we compare several carriers side by side, and Old Republic companies enter the conversation when the risk calls for them. We also walk clients through exclusions and endorsements so they know what the contract actually says before they sign.

When Private Flood Is Worth Comparing

Which Louisiana Risks They Typically Suit

St. Tammany Parish and its neighbors have an economy shaped by water, timber and steady growth. Several local risk profiles line up well with Old Republic's specialized underwriting:

  • Maritime-related logistics. Trucking firms moving containers and freight between Gulf ports, rail yards and inland distribution centers often need specialist motor carrier coverage. Note that vessel and longshore exposures usually require separate marine policies.
  • Large-scale construction. Contractors working commercial projects along the I-12 corridor may benefit from programs built for heavy equipment, crane work and the expanded workers' comp rules above.
  • Forest products. Sawmills, loggers and wood manufacturers may find a fit with Old Republic Bitco's forestry programs.
  • Professional firms. Law offices in Covington, Mandeville and Slidell now have a direct reason to look at Old Republic.

That last point deserves detail. As of January 1, 2026, the Louisiana State Bar Association endorsed Old Republic Lawyers Specialty Insurance as the exclusive provider of its Lawyers Professional Liability Program. The move away from the prior carrier, CNA, brought flexible pricing and cyber liability credits for Louisiana firms. Participating firms may also receive a 50% deductible reduction for claims-free periods.

Common Questions About Old Republic Insurance

Can I buy an Old Republic policy directly? Most Old Republic commercial programs are sold through independent agents. A local agent typically handles the application, submission and ongoing service.

Is Old Republic only for big companies? No. Great West Casualty, for example, may write single owner-operators as well as larger fleets. Eligibility depends on underwriting.

My BITCO policy now says Old Republic Bitco. Do I need to do anything? The name changed effective April 30, 2026. Your agent can confirm whether any terms changed at renewal.

Does the LSBA endorsement mean every Louisiana lawyer must use Old Republic? No. The endorsement makes ORLSI the Bar's program provider, but firms may still compare other professional liability options.

Will an Old Republic policy cost more than a standard policy? Not necessarily. Pricing depends on your operations, loss history and limits, and a specialist may price some risks more accurately than a general carrier.

How does the new workers' comp law affect my business? If you hire independent contractors who perform manual labor, your coverage obligations may have expanded on August 1, 2026. Ask your agent to review your subcontractor setup before your next audit.

Making the Right Choice for Your Commercial Coverage

Old Republic's companies exist for the risks that make standard underwriters hesitate: big rigs, timber operations, aircraft, law practices and crews doing manual labor under Louisiana's updated workers' comp rules. For the right business, a specialty program may bring sharper pricing, better claims handling and fewer surprises in the fine print. For others, a regional carrier remains the smarter fit.

The way to know is to have someone compare both honestly. Aubert Insurance Agency has served Louisiana families and businesses since 1910, and our team in Covington and Slidell can review your operations, shop multiple carriers and explain exactly what each policy covers and excludes. We've been independent since 1910, and four generations of local ownership have kept us that way. We're one of the oldest agencies in St. Tammany Parish and the fourth oldest business in the City of Covington. I treat that history as a responsibility rather than a plaque on the wall. My job is to keep us answering to the families and business owners who walk through our doors, and to keep serving this parish for another hundred years.

Louisiana Insurance Questions, Answered

Questions clients ask us

Short, plain answers to what people ask before they call. Anything else, phone the office and ask.

  • What does an independent insurance agency do?

We represent you, not one insurance company. We gather your information once, then compare coverage and price across the carriers we hold contracts with. You get choices, and one agent handles the paperwork.

  • Which types of insurance does Aubert offer?

We write 13 personal lines, including home, auto, flood, boat, and life. We write 15 commercial lines, including business owners policies, general liability, workers compensation, and commercial property.

  • Do I need flood insurance in St. Tammany Parish?

Your homeowners policy excludes flood, and much of the Northshore has flooded outside mapped high-risk zones. Lenders require it inside those zones. We check your flood zone and quote NFIP and private options.

  • Which states are you licensed in?

We hold licenses in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Texas. License numbers appear in the footer of every page on this site.

  • How do you find me a competitive rate?

We take your details once and market them to the carriers and wholesale brokers that fit your risk. We compare the offers, explain the differences in coverage, and recommend the strongest fit.

  • How do I file a claim or request a certificate?

Call the office or use the Client Center on this site. We report the claim, follow the adjuster, and send certificates of insurance to whoever needs them.
