Covington & Slidell Independent Insurance Agents
Travelers can be a strong fit for many Louisiana homeowners, contractors, and small businesses, especially those with newer roofs and clean claims histories. As an independent agency in Covington and Slidell, Aubert Insurance Agency places Travelers coverage alongside other carriers, then rechecks that placement at every renewal so your policy stays competitive.
That's the short answer. The longer one depends on what you own, what you build, and how your property looks to an underwriter. A roofer in Abita Springs and a retired couple in Slidell might both end up with Travelers, but for very different reasons, and one of them might be better served elsewhere next year. Louisiana's market has shifted a lot since the rough years after Hurricane Ida. Knowing where Travelers sits in that picture helps you ask better questions.
Working with a Local Louisiana Independent Agent for Travelers Insurance
Travelers sells largely through independent agents. That means you typically won't call a Travelers office in Covington. You'll work with a local agency that holds a Travelers appointment and can quote it next to other companies.
This setup matters more than most people realize. A captive agent can only show you one carrier's answer. An independent agent can tell you "Travelers looks strong for your auto, but another carrier fits your coastal home better," and then place both. You get one point of contact for questions, claims help, and policy changes, even when your coverage sits with more than one company.
Aubert Insurance Agency has worked this way out of Covington and Slidell since 1910. Our process starts with a conversation about what you actually own and do, not a form that guesses. We also explain the policy itself. An insurance policy is a legally binding contract, and the exclusions you don't read are the ones that surprise you at claim time. We'd rather walk you through a water damage exclusion now than explain it after a pipe bursts.

Who Does Travelers Typically Fit in the Louisiana Market?
Travelers generally targets what underwriters call "preferred" risks in Louisiana. In practice, that often means homes with roofs under roughly 10 to 15 years old, good maintenance, and limited prior claims. If that describes your house in Mandeville or Lacombe, Travelers may come back with a competitive quote.
Here's a rough picture of who tends to fit and who may have a harder time:
| Profile | Typical Travelers Fit |
|---|---|
| Home with roof under 10 years old | Often strong |
| Roof 15+ years old | May be declined or surcharged |
| Clean claims history | Often strong |
| Multiple recent water or wind claims | Harder placement |
| Established contractor with safety program | Often strong |
| Brand-new business, no loss history | Varies |
| Bundled home, auto, and umbrella | Typically favorable |
Roof age is the big one. Recent legislation also affects how roofs are treated. Under HB 759, insurers may limit fortified roof endorsement offers to structures whose roofs were installed within the last 10 years. If you replaced your roof to fortified standards in 2014, that credit may not apply the way you expect. We check roof dates carefully before quoting.
With no lender to satisfy, the decision is yours, and so is the entire loss. A total rebuild in this parish runs well into six figures.
Homeowners who own outright
Your lender requires coverage at least equal to the loan, and will buy a policy on your behalf at your expense if yours lapses.
Homeowners with a mortgage
Accounting firms hold Social Security numbers, bank details, and tax records, which makes them prime targets. One industry observer put it bluntly: for most CPA firms, cyber insurance is no longer optional, and failing to meet MFA and EDR requirements can result in denied claims or total exclusion from the market. Translation: carriers now want multi-factor authentication and endpoint detection software in place before they will write you, and they may check after a claim. A cyber policy may cover breach notification, forensic investigation, ransomware response, and lawsuits from affected clients.
Cyber Liability
Placing Your Business and Contractor Coverage with Travelers
Travelers has a long history in commercial lines, and many St. Tammany Parish businesses may find its package policies worth a look. Retail shops, offices, light manufacturers, and trade contractors are common candidates. Policies may include a business owner's policy, commercial auto, inland marine for tools and equipment, and umbrella coverage.
For contractors, underwriters typically want to see a few things. These include years in business, your mix of residential and commercial work, how you use subcontractors, and whether you collect certificates of insurance from them. That last point trips up a lot of Northshore contractors. If your sub has no coverage and gets hurt, that loss may land on your policy, and your audit premium may rise.
Travelers General Liability vs. Workers Compensation
Contractors sometimes assume general liability covers their own crew. It typically doesn't. The two policies protect against different things:
- General liability: Typically responds to injury or property damage you cause to others, like a client's damaged flooring or a visitor tripping on your jobsite.
- Workers compensation: Typically covers your own employees' work injuries, including medical bills and lost wages.
- Who requires it: General contractors and commercial clients often require both before you start a job.
- How it's priced: General liability usually rates on revenue or payroll. Workers comp rates on payroll by job classification.
Misclassifying a roofer as a clerical worker might save money on paper. It also invites a painful audit bill later.

The roof
Age, material and shape drive the wind rate more than any other factor. A fortified roof designation opens markets that would otherwise decline the house.
Protecting Your Home and Auto with Personal Lines Coverage
On the personal side, Travelers may offer homeowners, auto, condo, renters, boat, and umbrella policies. Bundling home and auto with the same carrier is often where the pricing gets interesting. That said, bundling only makes sense if both halves are competitive on their own.
The Louisiana homeowners market looks calmer than it did a few years ago. Homeowners rate changes averaged just 0.1% in 2026, down from a 14% increase in 2023. The Department of Insurance put it plainly: "We're seeing fewer requests for rate increases and more requests for rate decreases... competition is returning to Louisiana."
More carriers competing helps homeowners with preferred profiles, and Travelers fits that group. Watch the details, though. Look at your named storm or hurricane deductible, which may be a percentage of your dwelling limit rather than a flat dollar amount. A 2% deductible on a $400,000 home is $8,000 out of pocket. Flood is excluded from standard homeowners policies, so Slidell residents in particular should treat flood as a separate conversation.

How We Compare Your Travelers Policy at Renewal
A good placement three years ago isn't automatically a good placement today. As an independent agency serving Covington and Slidell since 1910, we review your Travelers policy at every renewal against other Louisiana carriers. That way your coverage stays competitive and still matches your needs.
Our renewal review usually looks like this:
- Compare premium change: We check whether the increase or decrease tracks the broader market or stands out.
- Check coverage changes: We look for new exclusions, endorsement changes, or deductible shifts buried in renewal paperwork.
- Update your exposures: We ask about a new roof, a teen driver, added payroll, or a new truck.
- Shop alternatives: If another carrier offers equal or better coverage at a meaningfully lower price, we show you side by side.
- Recommend, then let you decide: Sometimes staying with Travelers is the right call. We'll say so.
Transparency is also getting a legal push. Starting January 1, 2027, Act 428 requires insurers to provide a
Rate Transparency Report at every renewal, and the LDI portal for those reports goes live by November 1, 2026. It's part of a broader state
push for annual insurance market data. We'll help you read those reports when they arrive.

| Feature | General Liability | Professional Liability (E&O) |
|---|---|---|
| What it covers | Physical injuries and property damage | Mistakes, oversights, bad advice |
| Example claim | Client slips in your lobby | Missed tax deadline costs a client penalties |

| Who needs it | Nearly every office with visitors | Accountants, consultants, agencies giving advice |
| Policy trigger | Usually occurrence-based | Usually claims-made |
Common Questions About Travelers Insurance in Louisiana
Can I buy Travelers directly in Louisiana? Travelers works mostly through independent agents. A local agency like ours can quote and service your policy.
Will Travelers insure my home if the roof is old? It may be harder. Travelers typically prefers roofs under 10 to 15 years old, so older roofs may face surcharges or declines.
Does Travelers cover flood damage? Standard homeowners policies typically exclude flood. You'll usually need a separate flood policy.
Is Travelers good for small contractors? It can be, especially for established contractors with clean loss histories and proper subcontractor certificates. Newer businesses may see varied results.
Should I bundle home and auto with Travelers? Bundling often lowers the total cost, but we compare each policy separately first so you aren't overpaying on one to save on the other.
How often should I compare my policy? At every renewal. Markets, rates, and your own situation change year to year.

Making the Right Choice for Your Protection
Travelers is a solid option for many Louisiana households and businesses, particularly those with newer roofs, clean records, and a desire to bundle. It isn't the right answer for everyone. The value of an independent agent is knowing when it fits and when another carrier does the job better.
Louisiana's market is more competitive than it's been in years. New transparency rules are on the way, and roof age rules keep shifting. Those changes reward people who review their coverage regularly instead of auto-renewing.
If you're in Covington, Slidell, or anywhere in St. Tammany Parish, reach out to our team and Start a Quote. We'll shop Travelers alongside other carriers, explain what each policy actually covers, and keep checking it every year. That's how a local agency has served Louisiana since 1910.

About the Author
Kyle Beerbohm
President
We've been independent since 1910, and four generations of local ownership have kept us that way. We're one of the oldest agencies in St. Tammany Parish and the fourth oldest business in the City of Covington. I treat that history as a responsibility rather than a plaque on the wall. My job is to keep us answering to the families and business owners who walk through our doors, and to keep serving this parish for another hundred years.
